1. Embrace your age (and aging), starting today.
Many women of all ages want to be seen, noticed, flirted with and valued. There’s no age limit to those desires.
But lots of women believe that we can’t have that kind of attention later in life because society says: We lose value as we age.
For so many of us, we start the futile battle against time as soon as the first gray hair or line appears. It is a battle nobody can win.
The question I ask is, “How successful is that process and could it be robbing us of pleasure and joy?”
Just think of the precious time we can spend feeling badly about ourselves—for the simple natural process of aging.
What would happen if we embraced our aging to the point of celebrating it? I challenge you to do that. Here are a few ways to start...
2. Question what makes you feel bad about yourself.
We often take negative messages about aging for granted, so we think they’re “true.”
But negative concepts of aging are man-made i.e. invented by us. We only make them true by believing them.
When you change your mind and practice living according to different points of view, you change what’s true.
Now, it won’t happen overnight. It’s a journey to unlearn what society has taught us. But what’s important is to take the first steps.
Try it by questioning concepts that make you feel bad about yourself.
3. Learn other culture’s beliefs about beauty.
Our culture is just one of thousands all over the world—and many of them have very different ideas about beauty and value in relation to age.
All societies adorn their bodies. It’s a natural behavior of our species, whether it’s makeup, tattoos, piercings, apparel, hairstyles, etc.
Not all cultures use adornment to hide things or to try to slow the natural cycles of life.
4. Take the first step.
Being realistic is one way I have come to feel confident with my age.
It might feel like a leap—since we have been inundated with messages that say if we allow our age to show we will become invisible.
But when we wear your ages openly and proudly, something astounding happens. When we find ourselves perfect as we are—it changes our persona. That changes how others perceive and react to us.
If you take that first step, as you learn to love your age, you may find the world starts to respond to you and reinforce that confidence.
5. Experiment with your makeup routine.
I’ve found that matte, dry and powder-based cosmetics dull my skin’s glow and radiance. It feels like a mask between me and the world.
Try experimenting with what happens when you reveal your skin, by using cosmetics that allow your natural features to show, and nourish your skin rather than hide or cover it up.

Our late founder, Cindy Joseph, created our original Boom cosmetics and skin care line. As a makeup artist for 27 years, Cindy had unique insight into exactly how to bring out every woman’s natural beauty at every age. Cindy always said: “As women age, looking fresh, rather than made up, is the key.”
“The biggest makeup mistake that middle-aged women make is putting on too much under eye concealer,” Cindy used to say. “At home, it might look OK, but in the daylight, it just looks like a bunch of gunk under your eyes. The older you get, the less makeup you should wear. It ’s not a blank canvas anymore.”
Long before Cindy founded BOOM!, she had two very successful careers—first as a makeup artist, and then as a silver-haired supermodel.
Cindy began her 27-year career as a makeup artist in San Francisco in the late ’70s, working for Macy’s, Esprit de Corp and others. It was there she pioneered the first “natural look” for women— which would later become the inspiration for our Boom cosmetics.
At age 49, Cindy let her hair go gray, and just like that, she was spotted on a New York sidewalk by a scout for the fashion photographer Steven Miesel and began her career as a silver-haired supermodel. Over the next two decades, she was featured in ads for Target, L.L. Bean, Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, Olay, Nivea and others.
In her early 60s, she went into the cosmetics business herself with BOOM! After nearly three decades as a makeup artist, Cindy wanted to create the exact cosmetics she would want in her own makeup kit. As a silver-haired supermodel, she wanted to design a line of cosmetics that was not about hiding, but was about revealing a woman’s natural beauty at every age. We are proud to say: she succeeded. The overall effect is a dewy, natural look that’s ideal for every age.
